UV-Crosslinking

Neem contact op

UV cross-linking aims to slow the progression of ectasia (like keratoconus) or to stop it by strengthening the weakened connective tissue.

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) eye drops will be administered during this treatment, and a UV-A light will be used. This will help create connections in the connective tissue, strengthening the cornea.

The eye is locally anaesthetised using eye drops. You will receive a bandage lens to protect your eye following the operation. You can go home once the procedure has been completed. We recommend you bring someone with you, as your vision may be temporarily impaired following treatment.

You may experience some discomfort following the operation, and it’s a good idea to take it easy. We recommend you use the eye drops we prescribe for you to help the eye heal properly and reduce the risk of infection.

The top layer (epithelium) is first removed using a type of sponge during UV cross-linking. Riboflavin (vitamin B2) eye drops will be administered during this treatment, and a UV-A light will be used. This will help create connections in the connective tissue, strengthening the cornea. At the end of treatment, a bandage lens will be placed on the eye to help protect it until the epithelium has grown back.
