A cornea transplant, also known as keratoplasty, is a surgical procedure where a damaged or diseased (part of the) cornea is replaced by a donor cornea (a transplant). Cornea transplants are usually performed to restore vision resulting from irrevocable corneal clouding. The operation can also be carried out to reduce severe pain or for cosmetic reasons.

The most important indications for a cornea transplant differ across the globe. In the Western world, the procedure is most often carried out for diseases which affect the endothelium, like Fuchs endothelial dystrophy, bullous keratopathy and transplant failures. Or in the event of corneal ectasia, like keratoconus.
